11 Nov THEY’RE SELLING CAVIAR… TOO BAD IT’S FISH CHUM!
Every time we have a conversation with a publisher or supplier who insists they need to be 100% fully paid or prepaid before they can deliver anything, red flags start to wave before my eyes. Invariably I also expect to hear some of the most extravagant claims about the product or service that one can think up. One would imagine almost 100 years since P. T. Barnum, professional salespeople and business development types would have evolved beyond this point.
What really makes this all the more exasperating is in most cases 99% of the claims are false and EVEN WORST, what they are pushing isn’t usually competitive in quality to the general market. It’s presented as Caviar but it more often than not turns out to be instead…. fish chum.
Today’s virtual marketplace requires trust, truth, and transparency. Unfortunately, none of these qualities tend to be evident in the type of persons or businesses that need all their money up front. Every time I fall for their well-practiced lines, I promise to never do it again and then, I surprise myself and do it again. Well… this time — NEVER AGAIN.
There’s no valid reason why someone can’t sell on credit to a credit-worthy buyer. Don’t forget this. The only reason is the seller is selling something pre-paid is that he doesn’t want the buyer to evaluate what their offering before they get their money. They are that confident the buyer will be disappointed.
Earlier I mentioned the 3 T’s – trust, truth, and transparency. Next blog I’d like to explore these more with you and why they are the centerpiece to everything we are all trying to accomplish in online sales and marketing. It takes all 3 today working together to create a successful environment.
